What the Heck is a Runtime Error?
If you’re like most Windows PC users, you’ve come across runtime errors a few times. Typically, runtime errors occur when a program is launched, and there can be multiple reasons why. One is a lack of sufficient storage space. Another contender is viruses, spyware, and other malware.
What is a runtime error? The “runtime” part is a reference to a program running – literally the programs run time. The error signifies that the program unexpectedly stopped.
Common runtime errors that typically come along with runtime are “illegal function call,” “overflow error,” “out-of-memory error,” and so on. Each of these errors can seriously impair your Windows computer. Sometimes, these runtime errors may be minor in nature, just reflecting a programming error in a particular program. Others are far more dangerous.
Often the error message will show a brief summary and/or description code. Try to Google these error codes, and see if you can get a clue to your specific problem. When the error occurs, you should also grab a scratch pad and write down exactly what happened prior to the error. Had you just opened a program? This can be an important clue.
If you can track down which program leads to the runtime error, throw it into Google and see what comes up. Often, software manufacturers will release patches and fixes to repair these kinds of problems. Get these updates and the problem may be fixed. There may have been a programming error in the software, which wasn’t discovered until later.
Runtime errors can also happen due to errors on web pages. If you’re browsing the web and a runtime error shows up, this may have nothing to do with you. It could be due to a bug on the page itself. If this keeps occurring, you can actually configure your web browser (Internet Explorer) not to display them.
Some of the most pernicious and difficult to solve causes of runtime errors are in the Windows registry. The registry, the massive database of settings, options, and configurations, can grow cluttered and corrupted over time. It is not advisable to tamper with the registry yourself, so find a reputable registry cleaner to do the job for you. A clean registry may quickly lead to a fixed runtime error. Download and scan with RegCure to clean it our. Get your RegCure license key here, and check out some RegCure reviews.
Viruses and other malware are other causes of runtime errors. If you start seeing runtime messages, double-check that your security programs are up to date and active. Run a complete system scan and track down any nasties hiding on your PC. Clean them out and see if that fixes the issue.
